Business Talent Permanent Visa (Subclass 132)
This is a permanent visa for applicants seeking a Skilled Independent Visa. It does not require sponsorship from an employer, family member, or state/territory government.
To be eligible, the applicant must:
Have a nominated occupation listed on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL)
Meet the required points threshold
Have their skills assessed by the relevant assessing authority
For the Skilled Independent (points-tested) stream, the applicant must submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) before applying.
It has two streams:
Significant Business History Stream:
For experienced, high-calibre business owners or part-owners who wish to establish or operate a business in Australia.
Venture Capital Entrepreneur Stream:
For applicants who have secured venture capital funding from a member of the Australian Venture Capital Association Limited (AVCAL) to support business or entrepreneurial activities in Australia.

Genera Requirements
The Business Talent Visa (Subclass 132) is designed for successful business people who are nominated by an Australian state or territory government.
To apply, you must first submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) through SkillSelect, and only after receiving an invitation to apply can you lodge your visa application.
You may be eligible for this visa if you:
Are nominated by an Australian state or territory government agency
Meet the relevant business, financial, and personal requirements under the applicable stream
Intend to establish or manage a business in Australia
- You are nominated by a state or territory government
- Are invited to apply
- You and your family members (whether or not they are included in your application) meet health and character requirements
- You meet the additional requirements for the stream in which you apply.
- You must meet certain health requirements. The results are usually valid for 12 months.This also applies to all members of your family unit included in your application, whether they are migrating or not.
- You must meet certain character requirements. You must be prepared to provide a police certificate from each country you have lived in for 12 months or more during the past 10 years after you turned 16 years of age. Do not arrange for police certificates until we ask you to.This applies to you and all members of your family unit listed in your application, whether they are migrating or not.
Under Significant Business History Stream
You, your partner, or both of you combined must meet all of the following requirements:
Business Ownership Assets:
You must have total net assets of at least AUD 400,000 as ownership interest in one or more qualifying businesses for at least two of the four financial years immediately before receiving an invitation to apply.If the business is a publicly listed company, you must hold at least 10% of the total issued capital.
Net Personal and Business Assets:
You must have net personal and business assets of at least AUD 1.5 million, legally acquired and able to be transferred to Australia within two years after the visa is granted.Business Turnover:
Your main business(es) must have generated a total annual turnover of at least AUD 3 million in at least two of the four financial years immediately before you are invited to apply.Business Ownership Percentage (at the time of invitation):
You must have owned at least:51% of a business with annual turnover less than AUD 400,000, OR
30% of a business with annual turnover of AUD 400,000 or more, OR
10% of a publicly listed company.
- 51 per cent of a business with turnover of less than AUD400 000 per year
- 30 per cent of a business with turnover of more than AUD400 000 per year, or
- 10 per cent of a publicly listed company
You must not have been involved in any unacceptable business activities.
You must demonstrate a genuine intention to own and actively manage a business in Australia.
You must be under 55 years of age at the time of invitation.
However, this age requirement may be waived if the nominating state or territory believes your proposed business would provide exceptional economic benefit to their region.
Under Venture Capital Entrepreneur stream
You must have received at least AUD 1 million in venture capital funding from an Australian venture capital firm.
The funding must be used for activities such as:
Starting up a new business
Commercialising a product
Developing or expanding a high-value business idea
The venture capital firm must be a member of the Australian Private Equity and Venture Capital Association Limited (AVCAL).
You must have a formal, legally binding agreement in place with the venture capital firm outlining the funding arrangements.
